Mohinder Kumar Aurora was the key person who established Hotel Amir in Pune. Conveniently situated near the railway station, the hotel soon became a recognized landmark. This success naturally encouraged the Auroras to venture further into hotel business. The second generation of Auroras , comprising of the sons and nephews of Lala Santaramji, joined hands to form a new enterprise as Monaa Hotels in 1990. It was entirely a family venture and all its Directors were family members. Hence the concern was aptly named as Monaa, composed with a combination of the Directors' initials.

At present, it is the third generation of youngsters that runs the hotel.
